If we were excited for the World Cup before, we are doubly excited now! There are some fantastic global and local artists set to grace the stage at the inaugural Fifa World Cup Kickoff Celebration Concert at Orlando Stadium, Soweto on 10 June. This happens the day before South Africa meet Mexico in the first match of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Shakira and The Parlotones are just some of the artists that will be performing at the show.
Fifa and Control Room, a leading producer of global music events, today announced the first performing artists for the inaugural Fifa World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert.
Global superstars like Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Angélique Kidjo, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré and Vusi Mahlasela will take to the stage at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on the eve of the opening match.
Billed as the greatest entertainment show to date in Africa, it will feature performances from major international musicians and African artists, as well as appearances by football legends past and present and celebrities from other fields.
This historic music event will take place in front of a capacity stadium audience of 30 000 and will be broadcast to hundreds of millions more worldwide. (Read the rest of this article)
All of the proceeds from the concert are to go to the official 2010 Fifa World Cup charity which aims to build 20 Football for Hope centres across Africa.
The Kick-Off Celebration it is set to be a fantastic day of great music and good fun, all for a good cause. Tickets start at R450 and include park-and-ride.
